Aristotle's defenition of comedy

Here is an excerpt from Aristotle's Poetics:

Comedy is, as we have said, an imitation of characters of a lower type - not, however, in the full sense of the word bad, the ludicrous being merely a subdivision of the ugly. It consists in some defect or ugliness which is not painful or destructive. To take an obvious example, the comic mask is ugly and distorted, but does not imply pain.

The successive changes through which tragedy passed, and the authors of these changes, are well known, whereas comedy has had no history, because it was not at first treated seriously. It was late before the archon granted a comic chorus to a poet; the performers were till then voluntary. Comedy had already taken definite shape when comic poets, distinctively so called, are heard of. Who furnished it with masks, or prologues, or increased the number of actors - these and other similar details remain unknown. As for the plot, it came originally from Sicily; but of Athenian writers Crates was the first who abandoning the 'iambic' or lampooning form, universalised his themes and plots.

A Long Time

Wow....It has been a long time since I have been on my blog. Unfortunately we really haven't been doing anything lately for sports or anything. Brianna decided not to do softball and again I don't like playing baseball unless it is for fun.
Lately I have been getting into more computer type things. At our church I am one of the sound guys, working the mixing console and such. I am also restoring old computers, for example I have two servers I am trying to sell and my grandfather's ancient laptop that I am trying to install Linux on.
My dad and I are Linux fans now so we switched our main desktop to Linux Mint 7 Gloria, and on our older laptop we have Ubuntu 9.04. My mom hates Linux so she has her own laptop with Windows Vista on it. I find Vista a pain in the neck with all its problems.

Here is a picture of the servers. The one on the left is a compaq proliant 2500, The one on the right is a compaq proliant 4500 with its broken cd-rom drive on top. Each one costs $100 if you're interested.

A lot of scores

   Sorry about not posting this sooner, I had a few problems getting to my blog.  Anyways last weekend we all had basketball games. I had a game at Somers. Not all thier players showed up so we won that game 29 to 28. 

  Brianna had a game somewhere in Heartland. Ofcourse I didn't go because I was at my game but they lost 22 to 23.

   On Sunday I had my last game against Somers again. Boy....was that a brutal game. I got fouled like crazy but the good thing was was that I was making the foul shots. I scored about half our score with just foul shots. Then by the fourth quarter someone on the other team knocked out my left leg and I got scraped in the right eye. Ofcoarse I started missing all the foul shots after that because I couldn't see anything out of my right eye. The good thing was was that I finished the game. I was in so much pain that by the time I got home I couldn't walk. The score was 28 - 33. I have some pictures of the game that I will post later.

Also that was my last game for this season. So I am done with basketball. I think Brianna is done for the season to. Now she is going to do softball now. I'm not a baseball fan so i'm not doing baseball. 

Lets see......A victory and a lost

Sorry I didn't get to this sooner, but anyways Brianna had a game Saturday against the parks and rec girls. Brianna's team won that game. The score was 34 - 2.
I had a game Sunday and we played against Somers again. We lost that game as usuall 21 to 52. We have games next weekend so hopefully I can keep you updated.

21 - 33

I probably had my best basketball game yesterday. We only had five teamates show up including me, so we had to play the whole entire game. Man...I tell ya, it is so much easier to play without ball hoggers. I actually got a few more baskets than I normally do. So anyways we played Windsor Locks and, of course, more players. In the end we lost but I think that was my best game this season. I have a game next week against Somers so I will keep you updated.

Lots of games

Well...Let me give you the update on basketball games we had over the weekend. First I had a game against Somers. That did not go really well. The score ended up being 22 - 49.
Then Brianna had a game against Canton. They did pretty well untill the second half of the game. The score was 9 - 28.
The third game was today and Brianna was playing against East Granby. That did not go to well. The score was 13 - 27.

9 - 21

Brianna had a game against Glostenbury last night. They actually did pretty well overall. They
just need to work on less dribbling and more shooting. Other than that it was a good game.
Both Brianna and I have a game tomorrow so I will keep you updated.

Two to Twenty Something

Brianna had a game against Somers yesterday. They actually played really well this time. I only got to see the first half of the game. Unfortuanately I forgot the score but i now they won. Now only if they play well all the time mybe they will win more games.

38 - 47 and ?

    Today I had my basketball game. We were playing against Somers and boy was that game full of fouls. We were winning by the second half of the game and then it just seems like we ran out of steam.

    Also Brianna had a game against Vernon. That did not go very well. Basically the same as usual. Not much to tell. Unfortuanately I can't remember the score. All I know is that they lost.

2 - 22

Brianna had a basketball game today, but she does not want me blogging about it. So all i'm going to say is that they played against Windsor Locks and that they lost.

16 - 28 / 6 - 28

Well.....another loss against Windsor Locks for my team. Our defense was pretty good but our offense horrible. We were missing passes and dropping the ball. Agian our team stinks. The score was 16 - 28.
Brianna had her game. And again they lost. Their team is really slow so the other team knows when to expect thier passes. They lost 6 - 28.

33 - 55

This wasn't my game or Bri's. I got a call to do the scoreboard for the boy's school team. They played really well but got a ton of fouls. The team played against Farmington which also played really well but made some obvious fouls but did not get called for them. Anyways the score came out to be 33 - 55, East Windsor lost.
Brianna has a game tomorrow, and I am doing scoreboard duty so I will be there. I will keep you updated.

16 - 26

Brianna had her game yesterday. They lost the game as usuall. I got to run the scoreboard this time. Anyways they did get a lot of fouls. Not much to say. After the game we stayed and watched the 7 - 8th grade girls basketball game because they asked if I could run the scoreboard for thier team. Thier score was 43 - 33. They won the game.

Another Snow Storm

The snow storm that came by dumped about 5 in. of snow. I ended up having to snowblow our driveway twice. Anyways Brianna has a game today, which i'm hoping to go to because I don't think my mom is working today although I could be wrong. I will keep you posted.

21 - 32

Brianna had her game Saterday. They played against Grandby. They lost but they did really well campared to other games. Again I was not there (babysitting), so I can only give a limited description. I heard that the coach on the other team was arguing whith the ref, something about traveling with the ball. The good thing is is that it was not one of our refs. They played in Grandby.
They were going to have a game today, but of course it snowed. They postponed the game to tomorrow, so I will keep you updated.

17 - 28

Today my team had thier first win. Again it was against Somers. Unfortunately we have a ball hogger who has to make every single basket(i'm not it). There were a few fouls on our team but that did not stop us.
Brianna has a game today, unfortunately I have to babysit so I won't be there. I will keep you updated.

4 - 28

Brianna had her game yesterday. Again they lost to Canton. Brianna's team definately needs to work on ball handling. Other than that it was a normal gam.

Basketball / Snow Storm

Well, the basketball game I had today didn't go to well. We ended up losing the game. After the game we took the team pictures. By 16:00 we found out that Brianna's game was canceled because of the snow storm that was coming. So now it looks like i'm going to have to get the snow blower out.

Busy Schedule

Tommorow we have a really busy schedule. I have a basketball game in the morning at Somers and Brianna has a game also in the morning. After, Brianna has team pictures and then I have pictures after her. Once we get through pictures Brianna has another game (I forget wrere). Then Sunday Brianna has another game here. I will try to keep you updated.

5 - 32

Brianna had yet another game this weekend. She played against the Enfield team, and I had to do the babysitting again so I did not go. Again they lost the game, and Brianna is now admitting that her team stinks. They have one girl that has not played basketball before, and another that just does not pay attention. I wonder when they are going to win a game (maybe against Somers).

Another Basketball game

Brianna just gor back from from her basketball game. I did not go because I had to babysit my little brother. The score was 9 - 20 and lost. They were playing against Ellington. I heard that Brianna made a couple of good shots. Again I was not there so I can't get really descriptive.

21 - 27

I had a basketball game today against Somers. Unfortunately we lost because our team absolutely stinks. Again we have a few lazy kids on the team so that doesn't help. Anyway I at least got four shots so that was good. We only had one ref and when you have one ref, he can't always see every little mistake. Even though that there was a lot of missed calls, neither coach complaned, which was good. Again, i'm sorry, I do not have any pictures. My next game, I think, is next Saturday.
